THE SPECIAL TEDDY AWARD 2026 GOES TO CÉLINE SCIAMMA
The French director and screenwriter CÉLINE SCIAMMA will be honored this year with the Special TEDDY AWARD for outstanding achievements in QUEER CINEMA.
CÉLINE SCIAMMA is one of the defining voices of contemporary cinema. Her films are characterized by a precise, pared-down visual language and a consistent commitment to queer and female perspectives. At the heart of her work are questions of identity, desire, and self-determination, which she explores beyond normative classifications, thereby making a significant contribution to the ongoing development of QUEER CINEMA.
In 2011, CÉLINE SCIAMMA’s film TOMBOY was already awarded the TEDDY AWARD. The film is widely regarded as a groundbreaking work of modern QUEER CINEMA and a milestone in the sensitive portrayal of gender identity.
The Special TEDDY AWARD honors an outstanding artistic position that has decisively shaped international QUEER CINEMA and expanded its aesthetic as well as political possibilities.
