Preta, Barbarah, Mayah and Lena have been friends since childhood. They live in Vila Brasilândia on the edge of São Paulo. They still work as background singers, but they have long been dreaming of a career with their own group. They call themselves "Antônia" and since they decided to give up background singing, the dream of their own career has taken shape. With talent, manager and a repertoire of rap, pop, soul and MPB ( Música Popular Brasileira) make their way through the clubs and perform at better parties. It is tedious, but the four know what they want: fame, money, a life outside of the oppressive atmosphere of Vila Brasilândia. But just as the first successes appear and a way out of misery becomes apparent, everyday life and its omnipresent poverty, male chauvinism and violence catch up with it. In a hint of jealousy, Preta quarrels with Mayah, Lena bends to the pressure of her husband, who doesn't want her to rap, and Barbarah, who is also a gifted kung fu fighter, is drawn into the death of her brother's friend , For the chance to escape the mess of such a life, the girls have to fight to make their dream of another life come true.

Die in São Paulo lebende Filmemacherin Tata Amaral in einer der talentiertesten und preisgekröntesten Filmemacher der jüngsten Filmografie Brasiliens. Ihre Arbeit zeichnet sich durch ihre Experimentierfreudigkeit und Originalität aus.
Ihr Debütfilm "A Starry Sky" (1996) wurde von der Kritik als einer der drei wichtigsten brasilianischen Filme der 90er Jahre angesehen und wurde in Iffs wie Toronto, Rotterdam und Berlin gezeigt. Ihr zweiter Spielfilm, "Throught The Window" (2000) wurde mit mehreren nationalen und internationalen Preisen ausgezeichnet.
Ihr dritter Spielfilm "Antonia" (2006) hatte seine Weltpremiere in Toronto IFF, wurde von HBO Latin America und FOX Channels angekauft und inspirierte die gleichnamige TV-Serie von Tv Globo, dem größten Fernsehsender Brasiliens. Die Serie wurde 2007 für die internationalen Emmy Awards nominiert.
Ihr Film "Today" (2013) war der größte Gewinner beim Brasilia Film Festival des brasilianischen Kinos 2011 und "Bring Inside"(2016) wurde 2015 als Bester Film vom Publikum beim São Paulo Latin American Film Festival ausgezeichnet. Sie führte auch Regie bei der dokumentarischen Fernsehserie "Rua!"(2013), für das São Paulo Municipal Department of Human Rights, und "Causando na Rua"(2016), für den CineBRASiLTV Kanal. Außerdem führte sie bei den Episoden der 2. und 3. Staffel der brasilianischen TV-Serie Psi (2015- 2016) von HBO Regie. Derzeit arbeitet Amaral an der Postproduktion ihres neuesten Spielfilms, "Express Kidnapping", der in der ersten Hälfte des Jahres 2018 veröffentlicht wird, und an der 2. Staffel der Serie "Causando na Rua".
